New Single Honouring A Rusty Austin Ute

The acclaimed singer-songwriter, Justin Landers, is known for capturing the Aussie spirit through his lived experience and is set to release a new single that takes listeners on a nostalgic journey of an enduring bond between a boy, a rusty old Austin ute with no brakes, and the adventurous experience of learning to drive at the tender age of ten.

Co-written with Kevin Pye, the bush ballad titled Rusty Austin Ute, captures the essence of Aussie kids and rural life with an authenticity and is a fitting tribute to the rusty old relic that Justin and his father recovered from the dump on Mt Drysdale Station (near Cobar in NSW) and bought back to life as a paddock basher.

“I remember the day I learned to drive like it was yesterday”, Justin said. “Dad was digging post holes for a new fence and I was mucking around in the Austin ute pretending to drive. I pressed the start button and she burst into life. I ended up crashing the old girl into a tree at low speed. Dad was mad as hell but then thought it best to teach me how to drive” Justin chuckled. “There’s something about that old ute that just stuck with me. It wasn’t just a rusty old ute, it was adventure, freedom and a connection to the land and rural life as a kid. I wanted to share that feeling with everyone who has ever had a similar experience, whether it was with an old paddock basher, a tractor or just a special place they hold dear” he said.

With its reminiscent lyrics and joyful melody, Rusty Austin Ute is sure to strike a chord with fans of traditional Australian Country Music and those who appreciate tales of life on the land.

Single release - Book Of Endless Wonder

Book Of Endless Wonder is a traditional country ballad based on a treasured family heirloom.

“Family heirlooms are extraordinary. They could be anything from an inanimate object to an expensive piece of jewellery”. Justin explained. “What makes them special are the stories and memories that are attached to them” He said.

Book Of Endless Wonder is based on an actual, true story told to Justin by his very close friend, Ellie.

“A while ago, Ellie was preparing to move from her now dilapidated family home to a newer more appropriate home. During the packing of her possessions, she came across the family atlas, a limited edition of The Reader’s Digest. She told me about the story of how she and her late husband, Mick, scrimped and saved to buy the atlas for the kids when they were a young family and how it would come down from the shelf whenever the kids had questions about the world and foreign places.” Justin said.

Although there was an emotional tie to the atlas, Ellie described how she really didn’t have any place for the treasured book in her new home. She offered it to each of her children but it was no longer wanted as maps and worldly information are now easily obtained on the internet. Ellie decided to donate the atlas to the local St Vinnies, where she witnessed an enthusiastic young boy finding the book and thankfully, the treasured book finding a new home.

Single Release - The Weeping Red Rose

A beautiful ballad sure to tug at the heartstrings. Well crafted and tender lyrics, delivered with sensitivity and compassion

- Heather Farrell, 3HHH 96.5FM Radio

Multi-award winning, Australian independent country music artist, Justin Landers is thrilled to announce the launch of his latest single, The Weeping Red Rose. A haunting but beautiful story that rings true to Justin’s traditional approach to country music. It is sure to bring a tear to the eye. The Weeping Red Rose is Justin’s first co-write with Mudgee based TSA award winning lyricist, Kevin Pye. “When Kevin first proposed this song, I immediately attached to the concept, as loss in my family was still fresh and raw” Justin explained. “Kevin and I worked extensively on this song to capture the pure emotion and grief of losing a life long partner“ he said. Kevin often finds inspiration from the recollections and experiences of our seniors. “Although some stories border on melancholia, they deserve to be recorded to stir our emotions” he said.

Produced and recorded by Simon Johnson at Hillbilly Hut Records, The Weeping Red Rose tells the story of a graveside widow recounting the moments spent with her life long partner as she herself contemplates her future without him.

Although a sad story, the song evokes some positivity in the sense that life must go on and that memories are precious and personal and will forever be contained in the hearts of the loved ones left behind. The Weeping Red Rose is a stand alone single and is Justin’s first release since the success of his last multi-award winning album - Free Time and Money.

Justin’s new single, The Weeping Red Rose will hit the airwaves on Friday 22nd March 2024. Be sure to request it on your favourite radio station!
